ITALY
SANTA CATERINA

Sitting on the top of a cliff enjoying a commanding view of the seaside Italian village of Amalfi, directly on the Amalfi Drive, this charming, boutique resort dates back to 1904. It has been in the Gambardella family ever since and each generation has renovated and expanded the property. At lobby level is the elegant main dining room, an outdoor terrace and a bar and lounge. 35 guest rooms and 15 junior- and full- suites are located in the main building with 17 additional deluxe accommodations located in other structures around the property surrounded by orange and lemon groves.

Two elevators extend down the hillside transporting guests to the attractive beach club on the blue Mediterranean. Also at sea level is a bar, small swimming pool, a sun bathing area and a fitness room. Immediately above is a charming outdoor garden restaurant serving lunch surrounded by lush vegetation, flowers and lemon trees. A spa offering a variety of massage and other treatments was added in 2004.

Strong Points: A charming, romantic, boutique resort occupying a panoramic position on the Amalfi coast with superb dining and excellent service.
