FOUR SEASONS RESORT AT SAYAN, BALI

Nestled on 17 acres of verdant, rolling hillside overlooking dense palm forests and terraced rice fields rising from the currents of the sacred Ayung River, near the artist colony of Ubud, this secluded hideaway with a very modern, yet typically Balinese flavor is a favorite for guests from all over the world. In the main hotel building are 18 suites with balconies, 13 of which have upper-level parlors with dining, lounging and terrace areas. However, for the ultimate in comfort and seclusion, you can opt for one of the 35 one- or two-bedroom, bi-level villas spread throughout the densely vegetated valley, each with its own plunge pool and an upstairs lily pond.

In addition to in-suite dining, there is a casual riverside café overlooking the swimming pool, as well as, the panoramic Ayung Terrace Restaurant, one of the best in Bali. The resort also has an attractive health club and spa, one tennis court and reciprocal arrangements with its sister resort at Jimbaran Bay.

Strong Points: A combination of modern, exceptionally spacious, comfortable accommodation with a Balinese flavor, fine dining in an awesome setting.
