BIG ISLAND OF HAWAII
MAUNA KEA RESORT—MAUNA KEA BEACH HOTEL AND HAPUNA BEACH PRINCE HOTEL

The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel spread over 1,800 hillside acres on the Kohala coast overlooking a large, crescent-shaped, white-sand beach opened its doors in 1965 and was considered the first truly luxury Hawaiian resort. The 300 guest rooms and 10 suites have been frequently renovated and refurbished over the years. Facilities include several atmospheric restaurants, an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones Sr. golf course, 13 tennis courts, a pool, several shops and one of the best beaches on the island.

In 1994, a 350-room sister property, Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, opened on 32 oceanfront acres on another outstanding beach. There are reciprocal privileges between both properties. Facilities at Hapuna Beach include several restaurants, an Arnold Palmer/Ed Sea-designed 18-hole championship, links-style course, a state-of-the-art fitness center and spa, a swimming pool and water sports.

Strong Points: A complete, casually elegant resort complex with two of Hawaii’s best beaches and a diverse range of restaurants and sport facilities.
